Some days call for soft play – and now we have a brand new one (well, ok, I’m a bit late writing this) in Chard, South Somerset! The newly-built Chard Leisure Centre opened its doors in Nov 2021, offering families a modern multi-level soft play facility with ball pools, 3-lane slide, ball cannons and rope swings.

With a separate area for toddlers (gated off for safety but adjoining the main play frame), the soft play is suitable for children aged up a maximum of 148cm in height. There was enough to keep my 6 & 9.5 year olds entertained for an hour and a half (with an interlude for a cheese sandwich!)

There’s a café serving Costa hot drinks and goodies, snacks, slushies and light lunch options, along with accessible loos with changing facilities, and tables right next to the playframe so you can keep a watchful eye with your giant coffee!

It’s worth noting that the facility does ask that only food purchased in the café is eaten in the café.

It’s advisable to prebook online during busy times – play slots last for 1.5 hours and costs are as follows:

£6.75 age 3 years and up

£5.25 age 1-2 years

£2.25 age under 1 year unless with another paying child (FREE)

FREE: Adults accompanying children

The soft play is open daily with daytime, after-school and weekend sessions available as well as SEN sessions and birthday party hire – check opening hours and available sessions here.

Chard Leisure Centre is also home to a full-size heated indoor swimming pool and a shallow learner pool in case you want to combine soft play with a swim – check the timetable here for open swim sessions and family fun/float sessions.

Parking surrounds the Leisure Centre and is pay & display – the machine takes coins or you can phone and pay with card (75p per hour.)
