BarleyMows Maize Maze and play field, Chard

Here's a good summer holiday activity for kids of mixed ages, from toddlers to approx age 10/11.

BarleyMows Farm Shop and Cafe open a Maize Maze and activity field during the summer holidays, filled with Somerset-style fun - welly wanging (lobbing a welly into various targets!), skittle alley, giant hay bale mountain, feed the goats and pigs, tractor barrel train, football and netball shoot out, a giant sand pit, several trampolines, a toddler play area, and more. There's a covered area with picnic benches to sit down (if your kids will let you!)

I always wondered how little kids would get on in a maize maze if they got separated from their parents - would we ever see them again?? It turns out there's a simple solution - you're each given a flag on a big stick which you can raise and locate each other again.

There's a handy food kiosk within the play field enclosure, and a small shop with kids activities and treats for sale. More substantial meals can be bought at the farm shop cafe behind, or you're welcome to bring a picnic.

There's plenty of free parking and the site is buggy friendly. Rather rustic loos are available in the adjoining camping field - or you can pop into the cafe which has baby changing facilities.

Pricing is set at £7.50 per entrant for over 3s, free for under 3s, or buy a family ticket for four for £28. Season tickets are available and are good value if you're likely to visit more than once.

BarleyMows Maize Maze is open 7 days a week for the duration of the summer holidays and is an annual attraction.
